The fourth Broadway heroine to make her debut as a Disney Princess, Kate Monster, hails from Avenue Q!

Kate is really one of my favourites--one for the single girls with a contemporary sensability. Although I intially took Snow White as a source, I eventually gave up on the idea and the drawing took shape around Stephanie D'Abruzzo, the original cast Kate.

For inspiration, I saw a photo of the Q Broadway bears; instead of simply being replicas of the puppets themselves, the bears were dressed in the plain black outfits of the actors and held the puppet on their arm (even though she's on the wrong arm here). Pretty unorthodox, but I think Kate definately stands up to the others like Christine and Eponine.

PSA: This is Kate Monster from Robert Lopez, Jeff Marx, and Jeff Whitty's Avenue Q, the Broadway musical that satirizes children's shows, most notably Sesame Street. Both utterly hilarious and touching, humans and puppets interact, bringing to life a world full of everyday "adult" issues.
